Typical Defects of Flat TVs

The aim of this article is to present examples of typical defects of TVs we have encountered during our years of experience with flat screens. The aim of this site is to make it easier for you, the users, to be able to describe of any defect in your TV and consult it with our Service Department. We are particularly focusing on defects of LCD and plasma panels. In the Gallery bellow you can find pictures of the defects that will help you correctly identify your problem.

Is it possible to prevent my LCD / Plasma screen from damage?

Yes, if it is the case of burned-in logos in plasma screens. Plasma panels are very sensitive to static images. Especially with brand new panels, typically several hours of watching the same TV channel is enough to burn the TV logo in the panel (see the Gallery). Furthermore, beware of the possibility of burning-in black horizontal edges at the top and bottom or the screen, when using inappropriately chosen picture size. Note that this defect is not eligible for warranty repair and the only solution to this problem is to replace your entire display unit, which is always a very costly repair.
Serious damage to the TV can be caused by a lightning surge during a storm, so we strongly recommend that you pull out the TV from the electric socket and disconnect the antenna, satellite coaxial cable, and/or network LAN cable.
Also make sure that your TV does not fall victim to young children's games. Since a broken LCD screen is an irreparable damage, the LCD panel needs to be replaced and this can have a serious impact on your family budget. The prices of spare panels are often close to the price of a new TV. Plasma screens are designed to be more "children proof" but some caution is needed here too. Older models used to have a removable protective glass placed in front of the PDP panel, but TV producers abandoned this idea due to the settling dust in between the glass and the panel. Newer Plasma models have the cover glass glued directly to the PDP panel, and for this reason, it can not be replaced.
